A New Red River Rivalry?

By: Bob Colorado
Last week, the Oklahoma City Thunder blessed the Dallas Mavericks with quite a short road trip to the NBA Finals.  With the Memphis loss, the Oklahoma City Thunder will happily move to their first Conference Final, led by Kevin Durant.  It’s only a 3 hour drive between Dallas and Oklahoma City, which would lead me to assume that quite a few NBA fanatics will be trying to find the budget and time to attend each playoff game.  Folks, it’s not like it is Memphis vs. Los Angeles, fans can literally DRIVE to each game.  I think everyone in D/FW knows someone who drives regularly between North Texas and Central Oklahoma. Nice drive, somewhat traffic free, and you pass those Shiny Casinos!  This short travel time will ultimately help the Mavs, who have again, as repeated over and over by the media, are older and benefited by their week long vacation between the Lakers and this series with OKC.  Did you watch that game on Monday? Dirk absolutely benefited!  He set an NBA Record, 24 free throws without a miss!  Now, when the Mavs win (I say, in 6) their next opponent looks to be Chicago, although Miami would be interesting with the Mavs’ NBA Finals Nightmare a few years ago.  This would make a road trip to see every game would be out of the question.  However, don’t think Dallas would mind the longer road trip, as they would be one step closer to
their NBA Championship which seems to be due.
